Hey friends!
It’s been another week of great religion classes! This week we had Christmas early, and we had
a lesson on the nativity. I absolutely
loved it. We also discussed Jesus
Christ’s life as our mortal Messiah.
This is what I want to talk about today.
The verse I want to focus on is Matthew 4:3, which reads, “And
when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that
these stones be made bread.” In this
verse we see that the first word out of Satan’s mouth was “if”, tempting Christ
to prove His identity. Satan tempted Christ three times, first to
make bread, then to jump from the temple pinnacle, and last, to worship him and
gain all the kingdoms of the earth. Yet Christ’s
response was resolute and firm each time.
We too will be tempted, but we need not fall. We can learn a few principles from this
story. First, Satan will offer
instantaneous gratification, with no consequences to follow. Satan’s way focuses on ease and pleasure,
fulfilling our desires in the here and now.
Christ and His gospel offer us eternal happiness and progression,
focusing us on patterning our lives after the Savior and learning to keep our
sights focused on eternity. When we are
tempted by a desire of ease and no failure, we can remember Christ being
tempted of the devil, and how He did not falter or give in. He knew who He was as a son of God, even the
Son of God. We too can take courage and
remember our identity as children of our Heavenly Father and king.
Although Satan is a master of planting seeds of doubt, our
Father in Heaven and His Son, Jesus Christ, have power to inspire faith in our
troubled hearts. Remember Christ’s
words, “Fear not, for I have overcome the world.” The way to Christ will not always be easy,
but it will be worth it. Stay strong,
friends. The Savior of the world is on
your side—with Him, how can you fail?
Hope you are having a happy conference weekend! Until next time,
