I found a great article I wanted to share about being in the 'thick and thin of things' and how to re-focus on Christ. President Thomas S. Monson has said: “We become so caught up in the busyness of our lives. Were we to step back, however, and take a good look at what we’re doing, we may find that we have immersed ourselves in the ‘thick of thin things.’ In other words, too often we spend most of our time taking care of the things which do not really matter much at all in the grand scheme of things, neglecting those more important causes” (“What Have I Done for Someone Today?” Oct. 2009 general conference).
I think this is such a good reminder from our past prophet, President Thomas S. Monson. These words are invaluable for me. I have found in the past few days as I have stepped back and taken a moment to reflect on my life, I am more readily able to re-focus on what matters most.
Here are some questions to get you pondering: Is there something in your life that is taking up too much time? Is there a way that you could re-center your life on the Savior and the Gospel?
One thing I do: In my room, I have a framed picture of the Savior, Jesus Christ, on my wall. Each night before climbing into bed, I look at that picture and ask myself if the Savior would be proud of me today. This helps me to reflect on my day and see how I can do better tomorrow.
Elder M. Russell Ballard said: “As an Apostle, I now ask you a question: Do you have any personal quiet time? I have wondered if those who lived in the past had more opportunity than we do now to see, feel, and experience the presence of the Spirit in their lives. Seemingly, as our world gets brighter, louder, and busier, we have a greater challenge feeling the Spirit in our lives. If your life is void of quiet time, would you begin tonight to seek for some?” (“Be Still, and Know That I Am God” [Church Educational System devotional for young adults, May 4, 2014], broadcasts.lds.org).
So I would challenge you to take a few quiet moments tonight to reflect on where you are in your life and where you want to be going. Are you perhaps too immersed in the "thick and thin of things"? If so, what will you do to change that? Remember the promise, "Draw near unto me and I will draw near unto you" (D&C 88:63). Strive today to come a little closer to Christ and to become a little more like Him. I promise you will find happiness as you do so.
